Leonel Pueyo raced his last race for Team Zyte recently, and he has now retired. The team was happy to have him as rider and now wishes him the best in the future.
Leonel Pueyo was known as a rider who was strong on small climbs and hills combined with decent time trial abilities. His strength ensured him many big results, including the overall win in the prestigious Essex Tour which was almost suited for a rider like him. The season before his big win, Pueyo finished second and has since the win finished in top 10 once more when he finished 5th just behind 2 team mates in Season 6.
Besides his success with Essex Tour, Leonel Pueyo proved to be a tactical benefit in many mountain and hilly races. He has played an important role to the team captain, but also managed to take a bunch of big wins, including the prestigious Albacete-Madrid in his home country Spain.
At the top of his career, he attended the World Championships Time Trial resulting in a podium finish after focusing the full season on this race. Compared to his competitors, Bronze was a high achievement for the proud Pueyo, who finished 7th in the same race the season afterwards.
As Leonel Pueyo leaves, Team Zyte will be missing an important rider who will be hard to replace. Another similar rider, Jørg Mølgård, also announced his departure next season along with the well-known Äme Anderberg, and the team will have a lot of work to do, in order to re-establish a top line-up as it used to have.
